“The Devil Wears Prada” is officially a musical on the West End, and Vanessa Williams plays none other than Miranda Priestly herself in the stage adaptation, which dazzled a star-studded crowd at London’s Dominion Theatre on Dec. 1 as part of a charity gala night.
On the red carpet for the event supporting the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Williams wore the color we all associate with the story and the intimidating editor-in-chief of Runway: a bold shade of red. Her ensemble included a satiny scarlet long sleeve top, a black leather pencil skirt and a reptile embossed belt. She wore her hair slicked to one side and accessorized with chunky earrings.
Truly evoking the pitchfork-heeled shoe associated with the musical and film, Williams matched her top to a pair of patent red slingback pumps. With a classic formation, the shoes featured a pointed toe, low-cut vamp and a slender strap wrapping around the ankle. With its angularity and striking color, the shoe certainly exuded the fierce aura of a no-nonsense magazine editor. Stars who have worn a similar style on red carpets lately include Katie Holmes and Zoë Kravitz.

For the after party held at The British Museum, Williams changed into a statement-making black gown, which featured a diagonal neckline, a sheer corset-style bodice, and a floor-length flowing skirt in addition to a flowing piece of fabric hanging from her shoulder. She created a monochrome look with a pair of black heeled sandals designed with a strap across the toes featuring mirrored curves as well as a thin strap wrapping around the ankle. These shoes featured a more rounded toe, contrasting the sharpness of her red heels.
The 2006 screen adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s novel is, of course, full of noteworthy fashion moments. From Miranda strutting outside in Hermes heels to Andy shocking her co-workers in “the Chanel boots” (which has become a popular meme), shoes certainly don’t take a backseat in the film.
