Nike has taken a big step forward in 3D printing in a riff on the original Air Max sneaker.

The Nike Air Max 1000 is a new 3D-printed silhouette that reimagines the Air Max 1 and was manufactured with Zellerfeld. Nike isn’t saying a tremendous amount about the sneaker in its press release, but the lifestyle sneaker appears to be a single piece printed around the Air Max unit in the heel — setting it apart in features from what we typically see in 3D-printed shoes.

“As an innovator, what’s most exciting to me about the Air Max 1000 are the new solutions we can achieve with next-level manufacturing,” John Hoke, Nike chief innovation officer, said in a press release. “It’s control, times precision, times expression — all of which are vital to sport and to design. When those variables of control, precision and expression are multiplied at once, the future of our product really does feel unlimited.”

Nike will show the Air Max 1000 the public this weekend at ComplexCon, and attendees will have a chance to win an exclusive pair of the sneakers. Further release information for the sneaker has yet to be divulged — but there’s a nontrivial chance the Air Max 1000 ends up being a part of Nike’s plans for its annual Air Max Day celebration in March.

“Nike Air has been at the heart of Nike innovation for decades,” Hoke added. “It’s been reinvented, reimagined and pushed to new heights, and yet, despite all the advancements we’ve made, we are constantly pushing ourselves to feel that emotion of awe again and again. More than a technology, Nike Air is a mindset. It’s about embracing the unknown with optimism, as we believe that Air will never reach its final form.”

Zellerfeld, founded in 2015, has become a go-to for 3D-printing in the footwear industry, having worked with Louis Vuitton, Heron Preston, Moncler and more. This year, the German Company launched a 3D-platform it’s calling the “YouTube of shoes,” in which users can upload their own designs for 3D printing.

Nike Chooses Kai Cenat to Debut Its .Swoosh Air Max 1 ‘Low Poly’ Sneaker https://footwearnews.com/entertainment-news/culture/kai-cenat-nike-dotswoosh-air-max-1-low-poly-release-date-1203695922/ Fri, 27 Sep 2024 16:53:59 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203695922 If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Footwear News may receive an affiliate commission.

After becoming the first streamer to get a Nike deal earlier this year, Kai Cenat has taken up his most involved role with the brand yet.

Nike .Swoosh enlisted Cenat to unveil the Air Max 1 “Low Poly,” a sneaker with both a digital and real-life presence that’ll be the first from the Web3 platform to be made available via pre-order. Appearing in the Air Max 1’s original “Sport Red” color scheme, the .Swoosh sneaker takes on the sort of hard angles and rough shading found on low poly 3D modes. The transformation can be seen throughout the upper including on the Swoosh, mudguard and even the upper most eyestay.

An immersive “Max’s Lab” experience on .Swoosh’s website allows users to learn more about the sneaker and search for easter eggs, and Nike also made a physical recreation of the room where Cenat streams in the low poly style. A video posted to .Swoosh’s social media channels shows Cenat entering the space in awe.

Nike has previously released sneakers with digital counterparts through its .Swoosh platform, including Air Force 1 Lows exclusive to NFT holders. The company also acquired the digital sneaker studio RTFKT in 2020 to deepen its web3 presence and has since released AF1 Lows and Dunk Genesis sneakers also exclusive to NFT holders. This Air Max 1, however, marks the first .Swoosh drop to feature a pre-order.

The Nike .Swoosh Air Max 1 “Low Poly” will be made available for pre-order beginning October 8 with one pair available per order while supplies last. Pricing is set at $150 for the sneakers, and shipping will commence approximately 120 days after the order is placed.

How to Buy Patta’s Coveted Nike Air Max 1 Collab This Weekend https://footwearnews.com/shoes/sneaker-news/patta-nike-air-max-1-chlorophyll-2024-hf1012-300-1203664333/ Wed, 11 Sep 2024 19:29:24 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203664333 If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Footwear News may receive an affiliate commission.

Update: Sept. 11, 2024 at 3:20 p.m. ET:

As reported by FN in July, Patta’s Nike Air Max 1 “Chlorophyll” collaboration will return soon to help the Amsterdam retailer celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The collaboration’s rerelease was confirmed last week by Nike, which shared more details behind the revitalization of the Air Max 1 collaboration.

First launched in 2009 in honor of Patta’s 5th anniversary, the store’s “Chlorophyll” Nike Air Max 1 now makes a comeback for Patta’s 15th year in business. According to Nike, the duo focused on accurately replicating the look and feel of the original pair, right down to the same fabric found on the ’09 iteration. Changes are mostly subtle and include a new insole featuring the €20 bill and a special 20th anniversary shoebox.

The 2024 version of the Patta x Nike Air Max 1 ‘Chlorophyll’ (on-foot). Credit: Nike

“The original ‘Chlorophyll’ project was almost like a first album: there was a lot of energy, a lot of ideation in there, and the product was just very organic,” Patta co-founder Guillaume “Gee” Schmidt said in Nike’s press release. “With this release, we stick to the essence of the shoe, which really stands the test of time. It’s just an amazing moment to bring back a shoe that’s so coveted, that’s so loved by the sneaker community and the community at large.”

With over 10 collaborations between them and six Air Max 1s alone, Nike says Patta is not only its longest but its most impactful Air Max collaborator.

Once so scarce that ’09 pairs were surpassing sales of $2,000 on StockX, the Patta x Nike Air Max 1 “Chlorophyll” is finally returning to retail. The collaboration will launch exclusively from pattaxnike.com and Patta stores on Sept. 13. The Patta store in Lagos, Nigeria will offer early access on Sept. 12. Retail pricing is $160.

What We Originally Reported on July 14, 2024

Amsterdam, Netherlands-based sneaker and streetwear retailer Patta celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion, it looks like it will be revisiting one of its most popular Nike collaborations.

Originally reported by Nike Air Max-centric leaker account @bubblekope in November 2023, Patta is lined up to release a “Chlorophyll/Chlorophyll/Matte Silver” Nike Air Max 1 with style code HF1012-300 during fall 2024.

The colorway description is similar to Patta’s Nike Air Max 1 collaboration from 2009, which featured a “White/Chlorophyll/Matte Silver” colorway and has gone on to become one of the boutique’s most desirable collaborations. Due to the variation in the style code, some early speculation theorized that Patta could be releasing a new “2.0” version of the sneaker with small changes. Now, a potential first look at the ’24 iteration has surfaced courtesy of Patta itself.

Patta co-founders Edson Sabajo and Guillaume “Gee” Schmidt shared today a joint Instagram post alongside Nigerian singer Tems. On foot, both Sabajo and Schmidt were wearing a version of the Patta x Nike Air Max 1 “Chlorophyll,” although it’s not immediately clear if it was the ’24 iteration. However, in the same photo, Tems was holding a Nike shoebox emblazoned with chlorophyll green and 20th anniversary text — a possible giveaway at the box’s contents.

During its 20-year run, Patta has created numerous coveted footwear collaborations with brands including Converse, Nike and New Balance. Most recently, it worked with Nike on a “Running Team” collection highlighted by the Air Huarache 20Y24 hybrid sneaker.

The not-so-subtle teaser seems to all but confirm that Patta is indeed rereleasing its “Chlorophyll” Nike Air Max 1 in some form this year. As of now, the collaboration is expected to arrive sometime during fall ’24. Check back for further updates soon.

One of the Most Coveted Nike Air Max 1s Ever Is Returning This Fall for the First Time https://footwearnews.com/shoes/sneaker-news/nike-air-max-1-powerwall-brs-release-date-fall-2024-1203676030/ Mon, 12 Aug 2024 20:12:29 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203676030 If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Footwear News may receive an affiliate commission.

Nike’s turn back to some of the most sought-after releases in its history is set to continue with a rare Air Max 1 from 2006.

The Nike Air Max 1 ’86 “Powerwall BRS” is set to return this fall for the first time ever, albeit with one small change. While the forthcoming sneaker faithfully recreates the colorway from more than 25 years ago, it’s now getting the “Big Bubble” treatment rendering the Air Max unit in its larger, original proportions from 1987 when it introduced visible Air units to the world. Nike quickly shrunk the size of the Air bubble because the larger one tended to fail in cold weather, not to bring back the bigger unit until 2023 for the model’s 35th anniversary.

Nike’s “Powerwall” series consisted of 56 colorways on Air Max sneakers in varying degrees of limitation made in celebration of the Air Max 360, the first sneaker to feature an Air Max unit throughout the whole of its midsole without any foam.

Short for “Blue Ribbon Sports,” the name of the company before Nike, the Air Max 1 “Powerwall BRS” was one of the most coveted of the series and went on to be one of the most valuable of all the Air Max 1s ever made. Its decoration pulls from the color palette of early Blue Ribbon Sports sneakers, and a similar colorway would later be seen on Sacai’s LD Waffle in “Green Gusto” in 2019 that mashed up two of Nike’s early icons. Pairs have sold for up to $3,000 on resale platforms such as StockX.

The Nike Air Max 1 ’86 “Powerwall BRS” will release this fall through the Snkrs app, although a more firm release date hasn’t yet been confirmed. Pricing is set at $170.

A Rare Nike Air Max Collaboration Is Releasing for the First Time in 20 Years https://footwearnews.com/shoes/sneaker-news/huf-nike-air-max-1-2024-release-date-1203646488/ Sat, 01 Jun 2024 15:12:54 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203646488

It’s not often that Nike does a full-fledged reissue of past Air Max collaborations — Japanese retailer Atmos’ various “Animal Pack” styles and 2021’s Clot x Air Max 1 come to mind as recent examples — but the Beaverton, Ore.-based sportswear brand has another big project up its sleeve this year.

Rumors of a HUF x Nike Air Max 1 retro hit sneaker outlets in August 2023, but it wasn’t until earlier this year that in-hand images of the retro surfaced. Finally, HUF on Friday confirmed the collaboration to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original. The brand’s Instagram teaser features the tongue of the 2024 version in the original “Dark Apple” colorway (now known as “Pear”), but that’s not all the two brands have lined up.

The HUF x Nike Air Max 1 makes use of a greyscale colorway, adding pops of “Pear” green on the branding, liner, and outsole. Made predominantly of grey nubuck, its standout feature is a shiny cracked leather mudguard. For years, the collaboration has been one of the more coveted pairs in the Air Max lineage, although original 2004 pairs are usually unwearable due to age.

Along with the green pair that most fans know, the HUF x Air Max 1 was created in two matching sample colors boasting “Brilliant Orange” and pink accents, respectively. Those pairs never made it to retail in 2004, but leaks indicate that both unreleased pairs will launch sometime this summer. That information is supported by early in-hand images of the “Brilliant Orange” pair (pictured below), although specific release details for that style have not been announced.

Founded in 2002 by the late Keith Hufnagel in San Francisco, HUF was a formative skateboard and streetwear brand in the early aughts. Hufnagel died of brain cancer at the age of 46 in September 2020.

The HUF x Nike Air Max 1 “Pear” will release Saturday, June 15 from HUF. A follow-up release from Nike’s SNKRS app is also expected.

Jacquemus Turns Its Attention to the Nike Air Max 1 With Three Colorways Releasing Soon https://footwearnews.com/shoes/sneaker-news/jacquemus-nike-air-max-1-sneaker-release-date-2024-1203646199/ Fri, 31 May 2024 17:53:43 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203646199

Jacquemus and Nike are adding a new sneaker silhouette to their collaborative series.

The Jacquemus x Nike Air Max 1 will release soon in three colorways. The nearly forty-year-old sneaker takes on monochromatic looks in white, red and silver featuring a slightly modified upper. Perforations have been added at midfoot, while the larger leather Swoosh has been replaced by a smaller metal badge. Aside from the mudguard and heel counter, the rest of the upper’s paneling has been flattened for a minimalist look.

Jacquemus’ name is debossed onto the heel, and mismatched branding on the tongue tag and insole trades marks for the two parties involved. Swoosh-marked leather lace tips, which were also used for Jacquemus’ Air Humara and J Force 1 Low, make a return as a small luxurious flourish.

The white variant features shades of cream and off-white while mixing leather and suede on its upper. The red version strays only with a small white portion of its outsole and features suede, mesh and patent leather on its upper. For the silver pair, patent leather takes on more territory with a mesh base, and a dark blue sole unit hosts a small hit of white on the outsole.

Jacquemus and Nike began collaborating in 2022, and their most recent capsule included a Swoosh-shaped leather purse that went viral.

A release date has not yet been set for the Jacquemus x Nike Air Max 1, but the luxury label has said its newest sneaker trio is coming soon. This post will be updated as more information becomes available.

Nike Will Release a Commemorative Air Max 1 on Jackie Robinson Day https://footwearnews.com/shoes/sneaker-news/nike-air-max-1-jackie-robinson-release-date-april-2024-1203609933/ Fri, 05 Apr 2024 19:45:32 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203609933

For the fourth consecutive year, Nike is releasing a special-edition sneaker in honor of Jackie Robinson.

The Nike Air Max 1 ’86 “Jackie Robinson” is flush with details commemorating the man who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier. A blue and white suede treatment invokes the uniform of Robinson’s Brooklyn Dodgers, and his no. 42 appears on both a diamond tongue strap and a metal lace dubrae. Both of those elements appear in gold, as does the text on a special insole patch calling out Jackie Robinson Day 2024, the Nike heel branding and the upper most eyestays. A two-tone outsole also makes use of gum and blue.

The “’86” in “Air Max ’86” denotes the sneakers use of a larger visible Air bubble in the heel. This detail is a nod to a once lesser-known fact about the Air Max 1, as the shoe featured a bigger window to reveal the tech for its first several month on shelves. Nike had to slim down the cut-out, however, because the exposure led to the bubble cracking in lower temperatures. Only 400,000 pairs were made originally with the first proportions.

Nike first made a sneaker celebrating Robinson in 2009 with the Air Max Swingman Remix, a model that mashed up Ken Griffey Jr.’s first two signature shoes on the occasion of him reaching 20 years in the MLB, but it didn’t become an annual tradition until 2021. The Air Griffey Max 1 released that year featured a black and white colorway, but each sneaker after that has been modeled after the Dodgers’ uniforms.

The Nike Air Max 1 ’87 “Jackie Robinson” will release on Jackie Robinson Day, April 15. Pricing is set at $150.

Nike’s Day of the Dead Sneaker Collection Grows With the Air Max 1 and Blazer https://footwearnews.com/shoes/sneaker-news/nike-day-of-the-dead-sneakers-blazer-air-max-1-release-date-1203539359/ Thu, 12 Oct 2023 16:12:28 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203539359

Day of the Dead has become one of the most fun annual tentpoles on Nike’s release calendar. With an Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT 2 and Nike Dunk Low already confirmed to release this month, official images have surfaced to reveal the “Día de Muertos” collection will double in size with the inclusion of the Blazer Mid 77 and Air Max 1.

The Blazer Mid 77 follows the same cues set by the AJ1 and Dunk, as gold detailing features throughout the sneaker. Unlike those sneakers, though, the Blazer features a white leather base. A black Swoosh and mustache are covered in gold speckles, while gold embroidery on the lateral heel looks invoke the Moon and stars instead of the hummingbird that appeared on the aforementioned kicks. The mark appears again on one of two mismatched, pink insoles — the other reading, “Familia” with special Swoosh design. Standard Nike branding then appears in pink on the tongue tag, and off-white accents and a cream sole round out the design.

The Air Max 1 takes an even more divergent route by aligning itself more with the Zoom Pegasus 40 and another Air Max 1 that released for Nike’s “Familia” Latino Heritage Month capsule. Pink makes an even greater presence on this AM1, as the color consumes the entire upper and bleeds into the midsole as part of a gradient. Embroidery then features throughout with neon hues creating flowers and other motifs in the style of papel picado, a traditional Mexican art made by intricate cuts on tissue paper. The inclusion of hummingbirds and marigolds signifies their importance in Day of the Dead mythology, as spirits of the dead can return in the form of the birds, and marigolds are laid out in an effort to help guide them to ofrendas, or alters.

A release date hasn’t yet been confirmed for the “Día de Muertos” Blazer Mid 77 and Air Max 1, although it should arrive soon given that the other two sneakers will drop Oct. 21. Unlike the other sneakers, these two will release in men’s sizing instead of women’s. You can also expect a price of $160 for the AM1 and $120 for the Blazer.

The Nike Air Max 1 Gets a Perpetually Stylish Leopard Print https://footwearnews.com/shoes/sneaker-news/nike-air-max-1-leopard-print-release-date-2023-1203513456/ Thu, 07 Sep 2023 16:01:18 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203513456

Having debuted in 1987, the Air Max 1 has been a stalwart for Nike. It was the very first shoe to reveal its internal Air cushioning, a decision architect-turned-shoe-designer Tinker Hatfield fought for after being inspired by the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and its exposed framework.

More than 30 years later, the silhouette is still a regular feature in Nike’s release calendar, be it through in-line color schemes running that gamut of complexity to collaborations with the likes of Travis Scott, Concepts, Patta, and more. Soon to join the mix will be a leopard print-adorned version begging to be styled in a variety of ways.

The women’s-exclusive Air Max 1 sees the bold print take over the mudguard in suede. A sheeny white mesh forms the base of the upper, while additional overlays maintain natural color scheme in a “sesame” canvas. The Swoosh then arrives in a dark brown tumbled leather, adding yet another texture and matching the laces of the same color. Rounding out the kicks is an off-white midsole sitting atop tan outsole.

Although a release date hasn’t been confirmed, the “Sesame/Velvet Brown/Coconut Milk” Air Max 1 is expected to drop before the end of the year. Sizing will be exclusive to women, but that won’t stop dudes who love an animal print and can fit into the smaller size run from going after them, too.

The Air Max 1 “Familia” Previews Nike’s Plans for Latino Heritage Month 2023 https://footwearnews.com/shoes/sneaker-news/nike-air-max-1-familia-2023-latino-heritage-month-1203508205/ Tue, 22 Aug 2023 21:38:51 +0000 https://footwearnews.com/?p=1203508205

Latino Heritage Month has become an annual flagship for Nike to create a collection of themed sneakers. The first to surface from this year’s crop is the Air Max 1 “Familia,” which arrives with a rich mixture of color and texture.

Mesh, leather, suede, and cordoruy appear across an upper that makes use of an even greater number of colors. Tan leather and mesh form the base and sit beneath a suede mudguard and cord Swoosh, both in pink. Trim brings in green corduroy along with red and yellow suede, the former of which features embellished stitching. A tan tongue brings in yet another corduroy element, with the midsole coming in the same natural hue. The outsole is then broke up into quadrants of green, yellow, red, and pink as it moves from toe to heel.

A special “Familia” tongue tag graces the right sneaker, while the standard Air Max branding appears on the right. The mismatched marks are then flipped atop an all-over print insole.

The Nike Air Max 1 “Familia” has been confirmed for a Sept. 27 release through the SNKRS app and select retailers for a retail price of $140.
